 Window Replacement Benefits

Some people may not think that there are many benefits to be had simply through window replacement.  In fact, unless your windows are drafty, you might not have even ever considered window replacement.  Some homeowners, despite having drafty or leaky windows, may actually believe that they are making out through simple window maintenance.  The fact is window maintenance is not always beneficial or advantageous, especially when compared to such options as actual replacement.  The fact of the matter is that there are a great number of benefits, seen and unseen, in replacing windows in your home or workplace.

First, there are cost benefits to be considered as a result of window replacement projects.  They can actually increase the resale value of homes which were built after the year 1970.  This means that individuals who are looking to resell their home or just prepare their homes to earn the top dollar may want to consider replacing their windows as a simple and effective way to do so.

Another aspect to consider is the fact that replacement windows are often less costly to install when compared to actually replacing an original window.  Primarily, this is because of the quality compromises which occur in such processes.  With the right window replacement option in place, such a project can even cut the energy costs and utility bills of a building or home.  Energy costs may be cut by insulated glazing, which creates a ‘double-pane’. There is another popular option available to consumers, however.  With the option to add low E plastic film, energy costs can be cut even further, by as much as thirty percent.  Additional energy saving benefits, which are optional and depend on the individual’s personal preferences, include triple-glazing with higher quality pane spacers and sealing gases.

Not all windows protect from Ultra-Violet (UV) rays which are transported to the Earth by the sun.  These are rays that are in essence invisible.  Still, they have the potential to be incredibly damaging.  Window replacement options include those which work to block these rays from your home.  It is the aforementioned low E plastic film which can work to block the vast majority of harmful UV rays.  These rays have been linked to a number of harmful attributes, including skin cancer and prematurely faded furniture and carpets.

Another window replacement option to assist in UV protection includes obtaining windows with glass which has been laminated.  UV protection is appealing to homeowners not just because they want to keep their home and furniture looking bright and new, but because exposure to these harmful rays is being seen more and more as an increased health risk. Bay windows have a lot of exposure and often need UV protection.

There are also beautification benefits to these types of projects.  They can allow home owners the opportunity to change the design of their windows to match the aesthetic feel of their homes.  There are a plethora of designs and styles that can help change the aesthetics of a window as well as its size.  With multiple material options, including vinyl, wood and aluminum, it is possible to completely recreate the personality of a home.

It can be difficult to determine the overall cost benefits of window replacement.  There are many variables to consider, so putting an exact dollar amount on it is impractical and could be misleading.  The variables include window type, weather, shape of the building and their individually installed and operated HVAC systems.  The return on one’s investment is actually, and understandably, specific to every window replacement job. More than likely, however, you are sure to benefit from the replacement of your windows.
