How to Clean Your New Marble Tile Floor
So, you just beautified your home by getting a marble tile floor. Congratulations! You've chosen one of the most classic and elegant floors possible. Marble floors radiate class, and they instantly add value to your home. Of course, to get the maximum benefits from your floor, you have to do your part to properly maintain it. Caring for your floor is easier than you might think. Here are some tips to help get you started.

The first thing you should know is that marble is very porous and sensitive. Because of these characteristics, you have to be extremely careful with which cleaners you choose to use on it. Only use cleaners that have a neutral pH solution. Always be sure to properly dry the area when cleaning.

In fact, just like with hardwood floors, you should avoid generic, store-bought floor cleaners at all costs. These inexpensive cleaning solutions are rough and can cause serious damage to your floor. Ask your marble floor provider for suggestions as to the best cleaners for your floor.

Because marble is so soft and porous, be sure to never set your drinks down on the floor as they can leave water stains. In fact, do your best to not drink anywhere around your marble tile floor as spills (especially from acidic drinks like orange juice and tomato juice) can cause significant damage to your floor if they aren't addressed quickly and properly. In this case, an ounce of prevention is definitely worth a pound of cure. In the event that a spill should happen, clean it immediately. The longer you wait, the more the liquid will seem into the pores.

Most marble tile floors need to be properly sealed. This will help to address some of the issues marble has with being porous. Use a high quality marble sealer (ask your tile floor dealer for recommendations) to keep your floor looking bright and shiny. This will go a long way to protect your investment, making it last a lifetime.

On a regular basis (once a day is ideal), take a dust mop to your floor. The dust mop should be clean, dry, and non-treated (no cleaning solutions). Avoid vacuuming your marble floor as the wheels can be too rough on the delicate flooring.

You should also be sure to place door mats and rugs in heavily trafficked areas around the house. This will reduce the amount of sand and dirt from your shoes that scratch the floors and gets into its pores. Even though marble does wear very well and can last a lifetime, a well-placed rug can significantly cut down on wear and tear, keeping your floor looking its best.

In the unfortunate event that you get a serious stain on your marble tile floor, don't try to remove it yourself. Without the right stain-fighting equipment, you could actually worsen the problem, causing severe damage to your floor and diminishing its value. Instead, seek a professional marble cleaning service to repair and clean your floor.

If you're considering adding the elegance and beauty of a marble floor to your home, make sure you get the best quality marble from a reputable flooring company. You should never sacrifice on quality as this will leave you with a cheap marble floor that wears easily and instantly loses its value and aesthetic appeal.

Keep your marble tile floor looking its best by sticking to the maintenance tips in this article. Your marble floor will last a lifetime!
